Hey! Thanks for such a great list. I have tried several of them and now use these which I believe to be the best. So consider this list my shortlist if you care:
Add to Facebook: This is simple and very useful for increasing hits.
Addtothis: This is easy to edit and looks great. Way better looking than the other social bookmarking plugins.
Akismet: This is the must have spam protector for your wordpress blog.
All in One SEO Pack: Honestly, I have no idea how this works and what it does but I use it because everyone else seems to say it does something.
Chitika: Why have a blog and not make any money on it? This pops up a window of other things people might be looking for when arriving from a search engine (without actually popping up).
Contact Form 7: Every site needs an easy way to contact you. This one, in my opinion is the best.
Do Follow: This one I am confused about, and still up in the air about. So my opinions on it may change.
Executable PHP Widget: This is great for adding more things to your sidebar.
Get Recent Comments: Nice to add to your sidebar to see what people have posted recently.
Google XML Sitemaps

Tweet Meme
Twitter Tools
WordPress.com Stats
WP Smush.it: If bandwidth is an issue, this makes all your uploaded pictures just a teensy bit smaller.
WP Super Cache: Fast caching for your site
Well there you have it. In my opinion the essentials that work great and every blog needs.

Wow. I didn’t even know there were this many plugins available… If you haven’t guessed I’m new to blogging. Do you really use all of these plugins on all of your blogs?
I’m always concerned about using too many plugins, because I’m afraid that they might not work with the next Wordpress upgrade!?
